Are you motivated? Do you have something or someone that motivates you? Do you ever wonder what motivates that person you follow on social media?
All valid questions when you begin your fitness journey and probably one of the factors that work towards becoming healthier. However, how can it be this is the exact reason why we STOP going all together?
Well, I’m here to tell you that you are not alone. Yes, even as a fitness competitor and model I feel the same way at times. It can be frustrating to put in all these hours at the gym and not see the results you want, and as fast as you want them. Writing down your New Year’s resolution to lose weight to later procrastinate, or your career and family problems makes your health take a backseat in your life. Whatever it may be, the loss of motivation is there. We seem to find ourselves down in the dumps, but I’m here to tell you there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
Now what I’m about to tell you does not only apply to your fitness journey, but to everything in life. Happiness increases productivity and makes you more successful (in the gym and outside)
I find that this helps me when I’m struggling with motivation and I hope it may help you all as well.
1: Get Positive
Stop focusing on all the negatives in your life. Turn that frown upside down. Focus on everything you’ve accomplished so far. Every one of you is a unique human being, and just the fact that you were born is something to embrace. Remember that next time you don’t feel “special”. Monitor your progress and celebrate it. Whether it be losing a pound or finally seeing that little vein pop in your arm. Be proud and show it off to the world. Instagram it (even if you feel too modest about it) heck you’ve worked for it.
2: Reward yourself
However you feel fit. If you completed 100 burpees for the day, buy yourself that shirt you’ve been eyeing. I know money talks, so start a “rewards jar” every time you accomplish something wonderful or finish a task on your to-do list get money from that jar. Now let’s not get crazy and reward ourselves with a day of eating ice-cream…then you would have just backtracked all your progress.
3: Peer Pressure
Surround yourself with like-minded, positive individuals who want to see you succeed. Ignore all those that seem to criticize your way of life or way of thinking. This buddy system is beneficial to you both as you motivate and support each other. This also applies to social media. If you’re following someone who is constantly speaking negatively about themselves or others: unfollow. Set yourself up for success by surrounding yourself with those who want to see your succeed. I know this is one of the steps that really keeps me going on those blue days.
Now you have the tools to help you get motivated and stay there. In fact the very first step is to BELIEVE IN YOURSELF! BELIEVE YOU CAN DO THIS……I BELIEVE IN YOU!
